Dr Hamid Jabbar
Head Of Department Mechatronics Engineering, College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (CEME)
Dr Hamid Jabbar is an accomplished academic, researcher, and innovation leader specialising in mechatronics engineering, electronics, design innovation, and advanced robotics. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad, in 2002.
He began his professional career in 2003 with NESCOM, Islamabad, where he served as Assistant Manager (Technical) and progressed to the position of Manager (Technical), contributing to cutting-edge engineering and technology projects until 2013.
Driven by a passion for advanced research, Dr Jabbar completed his M.S. in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Myongji University, South Korea (2006–2008) under the supervision of Professor Taikyeong Ted Jeong. He subsequently pursued his PhD in Electrical Engineering at Hanyang University, Seoul, South Korea (2013–2017) under the supervision of Professor Tae Hyun Sung, where he conducted pioneering research in Applications of Piezoelectric Ceramic Technologies.
Following the completion of his doctorate, Dr Jabbar served as a Research Assistant Professor at Hanyang University’s Department of Electrical Engineering from 2017 to 2018. In this role, he supervised graduate research in the SEED Lab and led the Circuit Design Group. His work integrated globally recognised innovation methodologies, including Design Thinking, Double Diamond, TRIZ, and creativity-driven problem-solving, to accelerate research and development, reduce product development time and cost, and foster technological innovation, particularly in piezoelectric material-based devices.
In September 2018, Dr Jabbar joined the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME), NUST, as an Assistant Professor and was later promoted to Associate Professor. In addition to his teaching and research responsibilities, he has served as the Postgraduate Program Coordinator, playing a significant role in strengthening graduate education and research within the department.
His commitment to interdisciplinary research has led to several leadership roles. In January 2022, he was appointed Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) of the Micro and Nano Robotics Technologies Lab at the Department of Mechatronics Engineering, NUST College of EME. In January 2024, he also became Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) of Nanosciences & Technology Lab 1 at the School of Interdisciplinary Engineering & Sciences (SINES), NUST Main Campus.
Since September 2023, Dr Hamid Jabbar has been serving as the Head of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at NUST College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and also working as Co-PI of the Robot Maker Lab (RML) of the National centre of Robotics and Automation (NCRA).. His research interests encompass micro- and nano-robotics, intelligent systems, circuit design, mechatronics, innovation management, product development, and interdisciplinary engineering. Through his academic leadership, innovative research, and commitment to engineering education, he continues to contribute significantly to advancing technology, nurturing future engineers, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Institutional Best Teacher Award was conferred upon Dr. Hamid Jabbar in the convocation of NUST College of EME in 2023.
